RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - When a Richmond school bus driver spotted a Fairfield Court Elementary School student board her bus carrying what looked like a gun, she called the school bus dispatcher who quickly alerted police.
The child, it turned out, was carrying a toy gun, according to Richmond school officials. A second child standing outside the bus in Whitcomb Court also carried a toy gun.
"We do encourage parents to be very mindful because we do treat it seriously as we would if it were a real weapon," Richmond Schools spokeswoman Felcia Cosby said.
Cosby was not sure if the students ran away from the bus, or if they were escorted off of it.
The children were released to their parents custody. The Richmond school system is working to determine an appropriate punishment for the children.
