HENRICO, Va. (WTVR) -- All lanes have reopened on Interstate 64 after a water main issue that closed the center and right lane at mile-marker 181 for about two hours.

Crews will be working overnight to repair the broken water line that caused water to gush off of a bridge onto I-64 Friday afternoon.

The head of Henrico’s Department of Public Utilities, Art Petrini, said "everything should be fixed and back to normal on Saturday morning."

Petrini said a water line that runs across the bridge on Parham Road broke, sending water streaming off the bridge for about three hours.

The rushing water caused traffic to back up for two miles.

It’s still unclear what caused the break, but DPU officials said the change from extremely cold temperatures to warmer weather could have played a role.

VDOT dropped salt on the area to prevent any freezing overnight.

The repair work will not impact most people’s water service except for two homes and one business in the area who are without water tonight.

Crews expect to have their water back on Saturday morning.

you do know when you have done 0 upkeep for years that something is going to give.Henrico only fixes these pipes when they clog or break, again most are over 50-70 years old,ask a contractor

VDOT probably shouldn’t have used cheap pipes,
    the interstate’s flooded worse than R. Kelly’s sheets…
But $#!+, it was 99 cents!!!

pretty sure this was once again a Henrico owned pipe line, actually the 2nd in a week and about the 5th in few months.Fact is they forgot the rest of the county while building the nightmare that is shortpump
