Recording artists Macklemore & Ryan Lewis won three out of the four categories in Rap at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday.
They won over such revered artist like Kanye West, Drake and Kendrick Lamar. In an interview with Hot 97, Macklemore spoke on the racial tones of winning the Grammy (being Caucasian rapper in a predominantly African American genre) as well as how he felt that Kendrick Lamar deserved Best Rap Album.
“First and foremost, Kendrick is a friend of mine and I love his music and in my opinion has the best rap album of the year,” Macklemore said in the Hot 97 interview.
“Knowing how the Grammys usually go, I knew there would be a great chance that we would win that award and in essence rob Kendrick.”
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis won Best New Artist, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Album.
