FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) – A crash caught on camera that even surprised officers, until they learned the driver was texting.
“This person had no control. He went from driving in the left lane to crashing within seconds, so very scary,” police in Fort Myers, Florida said. “That looked like someone maybe had a heart attack behind the wheel and lost total control.”
The driver, 23-year-old Michael Woody, told police he was texting moments before crashing into a sign and tree. After the car flipped, Woody climbed out to safety.
"Obviously, this person didn't see the police officer behind him, didn't really see what what going on in front of him. Just shows you how quickly distracted driving can take you off the roadway," police said.
Police cited Woody for Careless Driving and Texting While Driving.
