HAMPTON, Va. (WTKR) – The National Weather Service reports an EF-0 tornado touched down for less than five minutes Saturday afternoon in the Fox Hill area of Hampton.
According to the report, the twister touched down around 3:50 p.m. to 3:53 p.m. for 1.25 miles. It traveled east-northeast with an estimated width of 75 yards.
The tornado snapped about 50 trees and blew 10 to 20 percent of shingles off homes in its path.
The tornado damaged the roof of the Fox Hill Central Methodist Church and completely ripped the roof off the city of Hampton School Maintenance Compound.
The tornado also destroyed the Fox Hill Athletic Association building at the Nike Site on Grundland Drive. It ended at the marshes of the Grandview Nature Preserve.
Based on the damage, the National Weather Service rated the tornado an EF-0 with estimated winds of 80 miles per hour.
No one was injured.
