LINCOLN, Neb. (WTVR) — A Nebraska Cracker Barrel waitress has received what’s being called the “tip of a lifetime.”

Abigail Sailors, 18, was working as a waitress at the restaurant when two customers, an older and middle-aged man, were seated in her section after requesting the restaurant’s grumpiest waitress.

Instead, the pair wound up with Sailors, who’s known as one the location’s happiest servers.

Sailors said the curious pair at table 222 kept asking questions about her past and why she was so happy while they ate their turkey and dressing and eggs and sausage meals.

Sailors tried to be vague, but finally gave in: she told the men that she had grown up in foster care after her mother was injured in a car accident, leaving her with a step-father who was abusive.

“I don’t know how I would have turned out if I didn’t have them. They shaped the person I am today,” Sailors told the Lincoln Journal Star. [Watch an interview with Sailors in the video player above.]

Then men then asked where she went to college. Abigail told them she was studying youth ministry and psychology at Trinity Bible College.

At that point, Sailors said one of the men told her he had graduated from Trinity. At that point, he pulled out his checkbook and wrote her tip: $5,000 to help with tuition, $1,000 for anything else, and $100 to split with another waitress.

“I’m just thankful. Everything we went through, my attitude is: God blessed me with a lot of things. I’m doing good. That’s all that matters to me,” Sailors told the newspaper.
