WASHINGTON D.C. (WTVR)--The Washington Redskins lost their last game of the season on a rainy Sunday, with the final score 20-6 against the New York Giants.

Now speculation has turned to what multiple outlets call the "inevitable" firing of Coach Mike Shanahan.

Although the Redskins have given no official confirmation that Shanahan will be fired, the Washington Post reported on Saturday that sources said the departure is inevitable.

ESPN reported that Shanahan’s firing was “imminent” and “expected" but they also sourced the Washington Post.

A few things are certain at this time. One is that Shanahan is scheduled to meet with Redskins owner Dan Synder on Monday. Shanahan told ESPN that "after I talk to Dan, I'll talk to you guys. We meet tomorrow morning."

Also certain is that Redskins were 3-13 this season and finished with an eight-game losing streak, their longest since 1960-61 season. They now tie the franchise record with 13 losses.

Shanahan is 24-40 in his four years as the Redskin's lead coach.

If he was released from contract, which has one year left, he would be owed about $7 million.

CBS 6 will continue to follow this story and have a full report in the morning. A press conference is expected after Snyder and Shanahan meet.
