PAINESVILLE, Ohio (WJW) — All lanes of I-90 eastbound were closed east of Vrooman Road in the Painesville area Tuesday because of a multi-vehicle accident.
ODOT said it’s not known when the area will be reopened. Tow trucks are on the scene and have started removing vehicles; while ODOT crews clear the snow.
A dispatcher with the Chardon Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the agency that took one of the calls for help, said it involved at least 15-20 vehicles and that there are injuries; although, it’s not known how severe.
The incident was reported around 11:14 a.m. Tuesday.
Other drivers were asked to exit at SR 44 northbound to SR 2/US 20 eastbound.
FOX 8’s Dave Nethers said some vehicles stuck in the eastbound backup were turning around and driving west in the wrong direction.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said the weather likely contributed to the crash.
Drivers were told to expect long delays on I-90 eastbound between mile markers 202 and 208.
Authorities also warned the road conditions were “very hazardous” and drivers should be extremely cautious and alert. It is not known when the interstate will be reopened.
