Four-month-old boy with broken ribs leads police to arrest a Fredericksburg man

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — William Schmuhl, 23, was arrested for felony child abuse in Fredericksburg after officers were called to Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center on Tuesday around 9 a.m. when a four month old child came in with fractured ribs and other injuries.

The baby’s grandmother brought him to the hospital.  Investigators learned the child had been living with his mother and Schmuhl, the mother’s boyfriend, at The Dunning Mills Inn, 2307 Jefferson Davis Highway in Fredericksburg.

Schmuhl is in the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.  Fredericksburg Police said the investigation is ongoing.
