When Maggie Marcelli realized she had matched the first five numbers in the December 14 Powerball drawing, she immediately ran to wake up her husband, David.

“At 3:00 in the morning I was screaming,” she said.

But his reaction was a bit more subdued.

“I showed him the ticket and he said, ‘Yeah, they match,’” she said. “Then he went back to sleep!”

The ticket won $1 million. It was bought at Raceway, 2058 County Drive in Petersburg. She used Easy Pick and let the computer randomly select the numbers on her ticket.

Her husband David, a Sergeant First Class in the U. S. Army stationed at Fort Lee, is friends with three soldiers who split a $1 million Powerball prize in March.

Powerball drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays.
