After day one of recount, Herring widens lead in area

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - The recount in the 2013 race for Virginia Attorney General is underway in Chesterfield.

Going into the recount, Democrat Mark Herring leads Republican Mark Obenshain by 165 (out of 2.2 million) votes.

Democrat sources tell CBS 6 political reporter Joe St. George that Henrico and Richmond completed its recount with Democrat Mark Herring widening his lead by seven votes.

As of 6pm Tuesday, Chesterfield officials told St. George that Herring picked up 40 votes while Mark Obenshain picked up 20 votes. No ballots have yet been challenged.

Marc Elias, the lead counsel for Attorney General-elect Mark Herring, released the following statement tonight:

“As of 6:30 p.m., Attorney General-elect Mark Herring is now up 866 votes overall, with 73% of the votes recounted statewide.
