PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- State police have released the names of the family involved in a deadly single-vehicle wreck on I-95 in Prince George County Friday evening.

Virginia State Police responded to a call just after 9 p.m. near mile marker 39 on the northbound side.

Officials said a Nissan Maxima traveling north ran off the left side of the roadway. The driver, 28-year-old Jeffery Higgs, of Accokeek, Maryland, over-corrected causing the vehicle to  run off the right side of the roadway, striking several trees.

Higg's son, 7-year-old Tyli D. Ajuan Higgs, who in the backseat, died at the scene.

Higgs was flown to VCU Medical Center with serious but non life-threatening injuries.

Additionally, Higg's 3-year-old daughter was taken by ambulance to VCU Medical Center for minor injuries.

Officials are still working to figure out if any occupants in the vehicle were wearing a safety belt or if proper child safety restraint devices were used.

All lanes of I-95 northbound were closed because of the crash, but had reopened by around 3 a.m. Saturday.

State police, who are consulting with the Prince George County Commonwealth Attorney's Office, said charges are pending against the driver.

This is an on-going investigation.
