CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- A Chesterfield man faces several charges after a dispute with his father that led to an officer-involved shooting late Thursday night on the 10400 block of Oakside Drive.

Forty-seven-year-old Michael Killough was inside the home with several family members.  Police responded to help his family members to get out of the home.  When they arrived on the scene, they saw Killough pacing inside carrying a long gun.

Retired Lieutenant Col. Andy Scruggs was the commander of a similar shooting that happened in May of 2006.  Officer Gary Buro was gunned down by a corrections officer on Totty Street after responding to a domestic call.  Buro's partner was shot five times but survived.

Thursday night's incident was similar to the situation that happened over seven years ago.

Sources told CBS 6 that Killough made claims to Chesterfield police that he was a federal corrections officer.  Neighbors told police they heard him yelling and acting aggressive.

In situations like these, police said there are two types of investigations that run simultaneously.  The first investigation is criminal, typical to what police do for every shooting.  The second investigation is an internal investigation to determine if the officers followed policy and procedure.

According to Scruggs, the investigation could take weeks, months or even years.  The officer or officers who pulled the trigger have to do desk duty until the investigation is complete.
