Fall color frenzy in central Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Maybe you’ve noticed it over the past week, but the trees in Richmond and much of central Virginia are all fired up! Peak Fall foliage color is here. And with rain chances only on Thursday, now is prime time to “leaf peep.”

Meanwhile, leaf drop is accelerating, which you can really see now on the foliage view from Shenandoah National Park.

This year is considered to be one of Virginia’s best Fall foliage seasons in years because of the end of the drought and limited severe weather events. Color change is progressing on cue for a typical season, as documented by the Virginia Department of Forestry:
