INDEPENDENCE, Va. (WTVR) -- Convicted murderer and former University of Virginia lacrosse player George Huguely V has been relocated to a new correctional center.

WCAV reports Huguely was transferred from the Keen Mountain Correctional Center to the River North Correctional Center in Independence.

The River North Correctional Center just opened in October, and is located in Independence, Virginia.

The center, which opened in October, is a level four security facility that houses long-term prisoners.

In February of 2012, a Charlottesville jury convicted Huguely of second-degree murder in the death of Yeardley Love.  Huguely admitted to breaking into Love’s apartment and slamming her head into a wall repeatedly–but he maintained he never intended to kill his one-time girlfriend.

Huguely is serving a 23-year prison sentence.
