GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – Uriah Harris will be tried on fewer charges when he goes on trial in Goochland County on Oct. 31st.

Harris will face charges of malicious bodily injury, as well as assault and battery charges.  He’s accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend in the parking lot of Goochland Middle School on Dec. 12.

The Commonwealth’s Attorney asked the judge to nolle pross a number of other charges including attempted murder, violation of probation, driving on a suspended license and possession of a weapon on school property.

Harris, ignoring the advice of both the judge and his court-appointed attorney, has decided to exercise his constitutional rights and represent himself during his upcoming trial.

In court today, Harris told the judge he would like to be tried on all of the charges, saying he wanted to “clear his name to his family”, however the judge agreed with the  CA's motion.

In addition to the reduced charges he’s facing, the court also determined that previous convictions for Harris on domestic assault and battery will not be used against him in court.

However, if found guilty, his past record could play a part in the sentencing phase.

If found guilty he could face up to 25 years or more in prison.

Harris is accused of beating his ex-girlfriend in the parking lot of Goochland Middle School in December 2012. The woman taught at the school.
