HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - Students are feeling the fallout from Thursday afternoon's fight at Henrico High School.

A tailgate, ahead of Friday night's football game, was cancelled in the aftermath of Thursday's melee. A pep rally, scheduled to take place before the school's homecoming football game Friday November 1 is no longer expected to take place, according to Henrico County Director of Communications and Public Relations Andy Jenks.

Three students are now charged with disorderly conduct as a result of the fight, according to Henrico Police spokeswoman Lt. Linda Toney.

She said the violence began when two students started to argue on the bus ramp after school.

"While two school employees attempted to deescalate the argument, numerous students gathered to witness the incident. A third school employee attempted to separate those involved after an additional male student (not involved in the original verbal argument) grabbed one of the school employees," she wrote in an email. "A School Resource Officer arrived at the bus ramp, observed the altercation and attempted to separate all involved. One of the students failed to stop and would not comply with police commands, so a Taser was deployed by the School Resource Officer to stop the assaultive behavior."

Police responded to the school and remained there until the students left for the day. Police returned to the school today to ensure student safety.

"The 17-year-old male student involved in the Taser incident was transported to the hospital and released (procedure for police when a Taser is used)," according to Lt. Toney. That student was one of the three charged with disorderly conduct.

An earlier report that a police officer was assaulted during the fight was erroneous, Lt. Toney said Friday. No other students, teachers, staff or police officers were injured in the fight.

Police said additional charges in this case are pending.
