UPDATE: Crews cleared the train tracks around 10:30 Saturday morning.  They are currently repairing the tracks and repairs should wrap up on Sunday.  A Norfolk Southern worker tells CBS 6 trains are not scheduled to pass through the area.

As of 3:07 p.m., Squirrel Level Road has been reopened.

PETERSRBUG, Va. (WTVR) -- A freight train derailment Friday around 8:30 p.m. has closed a road near the Petersburg-Dinwiddie County line.

A first responder told CBS 6 that a Norfolk Southern train was blocking Squirrel Level Road, which is near I-85.

According to a Norfolk Southern worker, the train was pulling out at a switch point at the CSX Collier Yard when four cars jumped the tracks. Two of the cars landed on their side. Officials told CBS 6 that trash containers were on the train, but that no trash spilled out of the cars.

Norfolk Southern said a crane is working to right the cars and that the process is expected to be completed before other trains are scheduled to pass through.

VDOT said Squirrel Level Road is closed at the railroad crossing between Flank Road and Wells Roadt. As of 11:30 p.m., there was no estimate at this time when the road will reopen.
