A new disturbance has developed in the eastern Atlantic. It is currently located about 600 miles west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands.
It may develop into a tropical depression before the weekend. If it obtains winds of 39 mph or greater, it will be named Lorenzo.
Upper-level winds will prevent the system from growing too much over the weekend. The suite of computer models shows a gradual westward track over the next week.
We will continue to monitor this system in case it poses a threat to the United States.
