CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WTVR)--Chesterfield  firefighters were called to the scene of a fire in the  700 block Farnham Dr for a structure fire around 7:15 p.m. Thursday.

Neighbors told CBS 6 that they heard a loud explosion sound before coming outside and seeing a house engulfed in flames.

"People described it like a loud tree falling. It was such a loud boom," said neighbor Stan Sweeney.

This is a residential area off of Midlothian Turnpike. Fire officials said they found heavy fire from the back of the house.

"It rapidly spread to the second floor, but they were able to get hose streams on it pretty quickly," said Capt. Brian Kemp.

The house is currently vacant, but fire crews are trying to notify the homeowner

Sweeney told CBS 6's Chelsea Rarrick he has lived in the neighborhood for around 30 years, but didn't know the people who used to live in the home.

"Everybody knows everybody so it's quite unusual," said Sweeney.

Crews got the fire under control in about 20 minutes. There were no injuries, fire officials said.
