Henrico man drowns in Rappahannock River

LANCASTER COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – A Henrico County man drowned in the Rappahannock River off of Windmill Point Sunday night.

According to a report filed by the sheriff’s office, the victim, 36-year-old Dmitriy Solomonov, jumped off a 19 foot boat and attempted to swim to Mosquito Island.

Authorities say another person tried to find him when he didn’t make it to the island.

An emergency flare was fired and a radio call was made for help just after 2 p.m.

Other boaters helped locate Solomonov’s body underwater. ¬†He was put onto a boat and given CPR once they found his body. ¬†Officials say the boat couldn’t be started, so he was moved to another boat and taken to the Windmill Point Marina.

Lancaster EMT pronounced dead just after 4:30 p.m.
