LAFAYETTE, La. (KATC)--Police in Louisiana arrested the culprit who allegedly vandalized a 9/11 memorial in downtown Lafayette, on the 12th anniversary of the attacks.

Two cardboard cutout images of crashing planes were placed at the memorial site.

Each plane had the letters "NWO” and an image of an eye in a triangle, a reference to the New World Order conspiracy theory that a diverse, wide-arching group known as the Illuminati control an agenda.

The theory includes the belief that the 9/11 attacks were carried out by the United States government.

Authorities arrested Salvador Perez and charged him with Criminal Damage to a Historic Building and Criminal Trespassing.

The memoprial was erected September 11, 2002.
