RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Richmond Police are investigating after two women were robbed while sitting outside their North Meadow St. home early Tuesday morning.
"They're a cocktail of emotions," third roommate Emmett Flemming said about his roommates. "I've never been robbed, but hearing about it can certainly be enough."
The women were sitting outside, enjoying the night air on their porch about 2:30 a.m., police said, when two men walked out from around a side alley with white towels wrapped around their heads.
The men walked up on the steps and pointed a gun at the women. The women thought it was a BB gun, but in the dark, they were not sure. When the women handed over a purse and a backpack, the suspects ran away.
This is the first armed robbery in the Fan District in a month, according to the Richmond Police Department Crime Incident Information website. There have been 48 thefts.
"It's been pretty safe all the time I've lived here, grown up here," Fan resident Michael Congdon said. "I've never had a problem whatsoever. Never seen or heard a problem, so it's a rare event as far as personal experience goes."
Police asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
