HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) — A West End neighborhood is on alert after more bobcat sightings.

A homeowner said a young bobcat was spotted last Monday around 6 p.m.

“I saw a young bobcat that left its mother likely only a few weeks ago come 20 feet out of the woods. It caught and ate dove under my bird feeder,” warned one neighbor in an email.

Then, an adult bobcat was seen around 10:35 p.m. Thursday running across Copper Creek Drive into the Quarter Mill apartments.

Local wildlife experts told CBS 6 News last month that the bobcats, which can weigh up to 60 pounds, were likely just passing through looking for food.

Experts advised folks to keep a close eye on small pets and not leave them unattended.

Jeff Trollinger, the Deputy Director of the Bureau of Wildlife Resources with Game and Inland Fisheries, said the animals are nocturnal and are very skittish when it comes to being around people.

“Again, if you see the bobcats, just leave them alone. Bring in pet food and small pets. They are considered prey to wild animals. The animals aren’t interested in being approached by people. They’re more scared of them than you are of them,” Trollinger said.

Trollinger also said the bobcats will eventually move away from the neighborhood. .

If you see a bobcat, call Henrico County Animal Control at 804-727-8800.
