RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- The six-year-old girl struck by gunfire in a shoot-out that started on a basketball court in Richmond's Mosby Court is talking about what happened.

CBS 6 News' Joe St. George talked to Sunday.

CBS 6 News' Joe St. George talked to Ernesha and her mom Sunday.

Ernesha Baites, who loves cartoons and is expected to start first grade this week, was the latest victim in a violent double shooting.

"Why did they shoot me," Ernesha asked CBS 6 News' Joe St. George during a Sunday night interview.

Patricia Anderson, Ernesha's mom, can't answer that question for her daughter.

Anderson, who was at work when the shooting happened Thursday around 4:30 p.m., said this violent outbreak is just the latest example of violence in this section of Richmond.

In fact, just days before Ernesha was shot, a four-year-old also shot nearby.

Anderson hopes that she will be able to move her family out of Mosby Court soon because she said the area will never be a truly safe place to raise a family.

"We are trying to get out of this neighborhood. I am working extra hard on that," Anderson said.

Ernesha's left leg remains in a cast, but she is expected to make a full recovery.
