RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) — According to the latest Quinnipiac poll, Virginia voters say New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg should leave Virginia issues alone.

However, the poll says 43 percent of voters want the General Assembly to address the issues raised by Bloomberg, while 52 percent disagree. This is in response to Bloomberg’s claims that many guns used in New York City crimes come from the commonwealth.

The results are widely partisan. Among Democrats, 67 percent agree the legislature should do something. On the other side of the aisle, 74 percent of Republicans says Bloomberg should not be involved in Virginia issues.

Voters from the commonwealth were also asked about their opinion of Governor Bob McDonnell. Voters are split 42 to 41 percent on whether McDonnell is “honest and trustworthy.”

Meanwhile the governor’s approval rating is still near his all time low. According to Quinnipiac, 47 to 39 percent of voters approve of McDonnell’s job. In July the governor’s rating hit an all-time low of 46 percent.

For the 2016 election, former Secretary of State and Democrat Hillary Clinton continues to lead over Republican and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, 46 to 37 percent.
