RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- A 20-year-old Richmond man is facing several charges after a police chase ended in a crash in Shockoe Bottom late Monday night.
Virginia State Police said they were trying to stop Wayne D. Patillo, who was suspected of having drugs in his car, near 5th Street and Jackson Street when he took off around 11:35 p.m.
State police said Patillo drove onto Interstate 95 southbound, hitting speeds near 80 mph, before getting off the interstate. He ran into a trooper's car and crashed into a power pole at 14th and Canal Street ending the three-mile, four-minute chase.
Patillo, of the 4000 block Old Brook Road, was charged with three felonies to include eluding police, assault on a law enforcement officer, and destruction of property and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
No one was injured and the driver was taken into custody without further incident.
Patillo was held without bond pending arraignment.
