RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – This year, despite not hitting 100 degrees in the afternoons, our Summer temperatures have been warmer-than-average. Part of this reason is because our daily low temperatures have often been warmer-than-average.

In the Summer (June, July, and August), our average lows range from about 61 to 69 degrees in Richmond. But some deviation from that is expected on both sides…cooler and warmer. But, most of our mornings in 2013 have been either average or warmer-than-average. Only six low temperatures since June 1 have dipped below 60 degrees, most of them occurring in June.

This morning was one of those rare cooler-than-average days, where the low was nine degrees cooler than the “normal” low for today’s date of 68 degrees.

Lows like this morning are closer to average daily lows in mid to late September. It is fair to say that this has felt like “early Fall!”

The cold front that brought us this drier, milder air-mass is well to our south off of the Carolinas coastline now. But this preview of Fall weather will end with the gradual return of humidity this weekend. And typical afternoon temperatures (and morning temperatures) will creep closer to August levels next week. So enjoy this brief break from the combo of high heat and humidity!
