(CNN) – The new owners of Heinz are laying off about nine-percent of the company’s North America workforce. The ketchup maker plans to cut 600 office positions in the U.S. and Canada.

The majority of those job losses will be in Pittsburgh, where Heinz is based.

The Wall Street Journal confirmed the downsizing originally reported by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Heinz was recently acquired by the same group that bought-out Burger King in 2010 — the restructuring of which was initially followed by job cuts.

H-J Heinz will still employ about 32,000 people world-wide, including 6,000 in North America.
