RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- Since The Virginia Flaggers announced a plan last week to hang a Confederate flag in Chesterfield adjacent to Interstate 95, many people have had their opinions.

The plan sparked a petition with almost 3,000 signatures against the flag flying.

On the Virginia Flaggers website, it said site work on the flag was set to begin this week. CBS 6 followed up with the plan and found out that hasn't been started yet. Grayson Jennings with Virginia Flaggers told CBS 6's Chelsea Rarrick part of the reason is because of the recent rain.

"We've got to have some good dry weather to get the pole truck in to set the pole," said Jennings.

CBS 6 News reporter Chelsea Rarrick asked if Tuesday afternoon would have been a good day with the nice weather. Jennings said it rained around three inches in an hour on Saturday.

CBS 6 also asked about a specific location of where the flag will fly. Jenninngs said because of concerns of vandalism before it's finished, it's something he will not disclose.

CBS 6 asked about those concerns when the flag goes up. Jennings said the group has raised enough money for security fencing, lighting and a camera.
