HENRICO COUNTY, Va (WTVR) - The absence of school board member Diana Winston and Superintendent Patrick Russo at Thursday night's Henrico County School Board meeting has caught the attention of some parents and tax payers in Henrico County.
"Taxpayers have a right to know what's going on," said on Henrico resident.
On Thursday, the board announced it was reviewing several concerns regarding Dr. Russo who is now on paid annual leave. It includes allegations on inappropriate emails and an alleged personal relationship between Russo and Ms. Winston and her husband.
Henrico County School Spokesman Andy Jenks was not able to elaborate on the absence of Winston at Thursday night's board meeting.
CBS 6 News reporter Chelsea Rarrick went to Winston's home Friday night for answers but no one answered the door. Calls to Diana Winston were also not returned.
"Since we did elect this individual, she could at least answer phone calls and try to let us know what's happening," said Stephanie, a parent at Henrico County Public Schools.
Despite the scandal within the school system, some parents told CBS 6 they hope this doesn't affect on things inside the classroom when school starts next fall.
"I feel that Henrico County is an excellent school system and my daughter does get the utmost quality education, so I would hope that would continue," said Stephanie.
