GLEN ALLEN, Va. (WTVR) - A fight over a boy and related Facebook posts led to gunshots and an assault Wednesday night near the Glen Allen Softball Complex on Mountain Road, according to Henrico Police.

Police said officers responded to the area around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday after shots were fired in the area. When units arrived, they did not find anyone at Virginia Randolph Park near the softball complex.

Soon thereafter, police were contacted by an off-duty officer working at Henrico Doctors Hospital - Parham Road Campus. The off-duty officer said three females had arrived in the emergency room seeking treatment for various injuries sustained during an assault that occurred at the park.

Police said that while they interviewed the victims, three other females entered the hospital and were identified as the assault suspects.

Henrico Police Lt. Richard Cosby said it appeared the victims were already at the park when the suspects arrived and assaulted them. He said it appeared no one was injured from the gunfire, although one victim reported that a suspect used a crowbar or similar item during the assault.

Although no one was shot, four shots were fired and officers did find casings on the scene.

Police arrested three females - one adult and two teenagers - in connection to the assault. They are charged with malicious wounding and one juvenile faces an additional simple assault charge.

Lt. Cosby said that the most significant injury at this time is from a victim that sustained an injury to her forehead that required numerous stitches to treat.

Several softball games were delayed due to the softball complex's proximity to the crime scene.
