30th annual Carytown Watermelon Festival, Sunday, over 60 musicians, a hundred vendors, a large kids area and thousands of watermelon to eat. The festival is Sunday 10am-6pm in Carytown, www.carytownrva.org.

8th Annual Filipino Festival, Friday, August 9th, 5-10pm, Saturday, August 10, 10am-10pm, at Our Lady of Lourdes, 8200 Woodman Road, includes a cultural program of dance, song, artwork & exhibits by local and regional Filipino talent,  authentic Filipino food, a dog show, live entertainment featuring Janet Martin, the D’Originals, the Groove Train, Latin Ballet of Virginia and many more, for details www.filipinofestival.org.

5th annual Back to School Rally for Richmond Public Schools hosted by Richmond City School Board Rep. Sound City Bands & Brews, Saturday & Sunday, August 9 & 10,  Gates open at 2:30pm at the American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar. The two-day event will feature 10 bands and 50 craft beers from local breweries in celebration of Virginia Craft Beer Month. Sound City Bands & Brews is an ‘all ages’ event and tickets start at $30.  A portion of all event proceeds will support Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity. Details www.soundcityrva.com.
