RICHMOND, VA. (WTVR): More than thirty objects make up the newest exhibit at the Virginia Historical Society, “Revolutions: Songs of Social Change”. The objects explore the music that defined the Civil War Era and the Civil Rights Era. The exhibition is broken into six sections: patriotic, sentimental, spirituals, freedom, Dixie and ballads. There are also two audio-visual units for visitors to listen to performances and read lyrics of the material that are featured in the show.

Some iconic pieces include Folk singer Pete Seeger’s Banjo Head, the Original copy of the Battle Hymn of the Republic and the 1859 Handwritten Version of Dixie among others. Revolutions run through the January 5, 2014.

The museum is open free  and is open seven days a week and not far from the Washington Redskins Training Camp. For more information visit www.vahistorical.org or call 804-358-4901
