CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – The smoke you see along the 7400 block of Midlothian Turnpike is coming from an old Dominion Virginia Power transformer, according to Chesterfield Fire Lt. Jason Elmore.

Elmore said the fire at the Dominion Virginia Power substation started around 1 p.m. as work was being done to recycle the inactive transformer.

Crews have decided to let the fire burnout because trying to put it out might be more dangerous, Elmore said. The fire could burn for several more hours.
