COLLEYVILLE, Texas (KTVT) -- A woman who rescues dogs got quite a surprise when she brought the animal home from the pound.
Tami Stanley, who rescues Labrador Retrievers, said she took Bunny in from a shelter with a bad case of mange and that the pooch was in such bad shape that she had no hair around her eyes and on her ears.
But as Bunny healed, Stanley found the dog had a special skill in the pool.
“I happened to grab the toy and it was under the water and Bunny came swimming by and just went ‘bloop,’” said Stanley. “So then we put it further and I held it with my toe on the bottom. She went right down and got it!”
Bunny, who could hold her breath and dive, was soon diving from seven – to nine – and then even 13 feet deep.
“For a dog to go underwater that far on her own and to be able to hold her breath -- you know that's a lot of pressure for dogs -- so it's very unusual,” Stanley said.
"And if you've seen her do it when she comes out she immediately blows out this big wad of air," Stanley said.
Bunny's underwater video has drawn thousands of hits on YouTube, so Stanley is hopeful someone who will give Bunny a loving home.
Stanley also said that as much as Bunny enjoys diving, she loves going hiking even more.
“Someone is going to love Bunny and Bunny is going to make a great dog and a lot of fun for somebody.”
