RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – When Washington Redskins training camp kicks off in Richmond next week, thousands of football fans are expected to descend upon the new Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center near the Science Museum of Virginia to watch the team practice.

The Science Museum of Virginia sits right next to the Children’s Museum of Richmond (CMoR) on West Broad Street. Now the Children’s Museum says it cannot guarantee parking for families who want to visit CMoR on the days when the Redskins are in training camp. “Events like Summer Series programs, camps, birthday parties and classes will happen at their scheduled times, so please plan your visit accordingly as traffic and parking may cause delays,” CMoR wrote in an email to members.

CMoR special events director Meredith Timberlake said the museum has around 500 guests during weekdays and up to 1,000 guests on weekends. She said the Children’s Museum of Richmond, the Science Museum of Virginia and the Washington Redskins have been working together to make the days the team is in town run as smoothly as possible.

The museum announced there will be just one entrance into the parking lot — the Broad Street-West Loop from the Science Museum of Virginia.

“As guests enter, they will be issued a parking ticket,” the email indicated. “This parking ticket can be validated at the CMoR front desk with the purchase of an admission ticket and/or with membership.”

People who don’t get their ticket validated will be charged a parking fee, the museum noted.

The museum reminded members of its other locations in Short Pump and Chesterfield County.

“CMoR asks for your patience and understanding during this busy time of year,” the email said.
