(CNN) -- The Arizona blaze that killed 19 firefighters is 100% contained, authorities said late Wednesday.

The deaths of 19 members of the Prescott Fire Department's Granite Mountain Hotshots was the deadliest day for U.S. firefighters since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack in New York.

Earlier, authorities had said they expected the blaze to be fully contained by July 12, though it now seems they are ahead of schedule.

The Yarnell Hill Fire was sparked June 28 by lightning. It eventually scorched at least 8,400 acres.
