CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WTVR)--Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell’s 21-year-old son, Sean McDonnell, was arrested Saturday in Charlottesville and charged with public swearing and intoxication, according to online court records.

The charge is a misdemeanor, and McDonnell could face a maximum fine of $250.

“This is a personal matter and is being addressed by the family,” Tucker Martin, spokesperson for Governor McDonnell said to CBS 6 in an email.

McDonnell was released on his own recognizance, according to Charlottesville General District Court records. His court appearance is scheduled for August 12.

Virginia's first family has made numerous headlines of late, with inquiries intopersonal giftsfrom political donors, personal use of executive mansion resources, and even a senator calling for the governor to resign.

CBS 6 Reporter Lorenzo Hall has an interview with the governor that is scheduled to air Tuesday night on the CBS 6 News at 11.
