RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- Before you set off fireworks in your area, be sure you know what's allowed.
Many fireworks are illegal in Virginia. In fact, there is a total ban on fireworks without a permit in Chesterfield and Henrico counties. Here are the local amendments to the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code on permissible fireworks (pdf).
Regardless of where you live in Virginia, state law says anything that explodes, rises in the air or shoots a projectile is illegal. That includes fire crackers, bottle rockets and roman candles.
