HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- There have been more reports of a black bear in the western part of Henrico County.

Henrico police said the latest sighting happened Friday morning around 7:30 a.m. in the 2200 block of Rocky Point Parkway near Cox Road and Ridgefield Parkway.

The bear was also spotted Thursday around 8:45 in the morning near Flintwood Drive and Ridgefield Parkway.

"We want to remind everyone to please leave the bear alone," Lieutenant Linda Toney with Henrico police said in a news release.

Animal protection officers are searching for the bear, which was first reported Wednesday  in the western part of the county.

There were about a half-dozen bear sightings in Henrico County over the last few days, and follows other recent sightings in Petersburg and Prince George County. [RELATED: Black bear spotted multiple times in Henrico]

Here are some reminders about bears from the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries:

  • Respect the bear’s space.
  • If the bear is on or near your property, do not escalate the situation by approaching, crowding around, or chasing the bear. This also applies to bears that have climbed a tree.
  • The best thing you can do is leave it alone.
  • Bears are naturally afraid of humans and will look for escape routes.
