RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Folks will soon be able to get more than just hot beverages at one Richmond coffee shop.
Captain Buzzy’s Beanery in Church Hill has filed a request to be allowed to serve alcohol and remain open until 10 p.m. The coffee shop now closes at 9 p.m.
The change is upsetting some who live near the business because they worry the changes could bring extra noise and possible crime to the neighborhood.
However, Bob Buffington, the owner of Captain Buzzy’s, said that other places located just blocks away, like the Hill Cafe and the Patrick Henry Inn, also serve liquor and are open until 2 a.m.
“Its’ not a bar and we’re not a restaurant, so to get a cheesecake and a glass of wine, I don’t think is unreasonable at all,” said Buffington. “I went through the proper channels; I’ve talked to our counsel women. I’ve gone through the planning commission, I went through the Church Hill Association and they voted unanimously with the zoning committee, the board and the membership.”
Buffington also said selling alcohol will hopefully boost sales and increase traffic for the shop.
