RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- The month of June is chalk full of local high school graduations each year, and also severe weather.  Hurricane season begins in June, and strong thunderstorms Thursday are expected to hit Richmond hardest during a pair of scheduled graduations.

Douglas Freeman High School is scheduled to hold their ceremony at 3 p.m. at the Seigel Center in downtown.  Glen Allen High School is scheduled for 7 p.m.

According to weather models of Thursday's storm system, the worst part of the should reach Central Virginia during that time frame.

Henrico County Public School officials said those ceremonies are set to continue as planned; however, they are monitoring weather conditions.  School leaders said any changes or cancellations would be announced immediately after a decision is made.

The VCU Police department said they are working closely with the Richmond Police Department, VCU Parking, and the Seigel Center to keep graduation crowds safe should severe weather strike downtown.  They also said they are tracking the storm.

Henrico High School held their graduation at 11 a.m.
