CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - Despite heavy rain, local law enforcement officers carried the Special Olympics torch 11 miles through Chesterfield to the State Capitol in Richmond Friday morning.

The torch continued its journey to the University of Richmond's Robins Center for the summer games opening ceremony Friday night.

Virginia law enforcement broke its fundraising record this year, collecting over $1 million for the Special Olympics.

The summer games took place over the weekend.
