RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- Several witnesses said they saw a man fire multiple shots while walking down the middle of a street in the Fan just after 2 a.m. Sunday morning.
The incident occurred on Addison Street between Cary Street and Main Street.
Richmond Police are investigating the incident. The Watch Commander for RPD said a victim was struck in the arm by three bullets. That person was taken to VCU Medical Center, but their injuries are not life threatening.
"I've been around people shooting guns before. I've never been around anyone shooting a gun at another person," said Ben Kyber, who is from Bon Air.
Kyber said he was walking to a friend's house on Addison Street when he heard the first shot. Kyber saw a man in the middle of Addison fire several shots toward Main Street before running off.
"I saw the guy with the gun and the next thing I knew I was in the house. It all happened in a blur," said Kyber, who later gave his statement to police investigators.
According to witnesses, an undercover officer was nearby and sped after the suspect as he fled. Richmond Police said the suspect hopped in a car and led officers on a half mile chase to the 1200 block of Lakeview Drive, which is in the Randolph neighborhood.
Police said an arrest have been made in this case, but no further details have been released at this point.
Kyber said he overheard a heated argument outside a bar on Main Street only a minute or two before the shooting.
Addison Street sits in the middle of the Fan District, which experienced a rash of armed robberies earlier in 2013. However, according to online police records, there were only two other shootings reported in the area so far this year.
"This was an anomaly," said Kyber, who added the incident will not deter him from going out in the fan.
Multiple longtime residents of Addison Street told CBS 6 reporter Jake Burns that the area is a bit transient, since many of the homes are occupied by recent college graduates or young professionals. Those same residents said shootings are very rare in the area.
The Richmond Police Department is currently investigating the incident.
