LEXINGTON, Va (WTVR) - It's a sight straight out of the 19th century as filming is underway for a movie about VMI cadets.

"Field of Lost Shoes" is the story of the march VMI cadets made through the rain and mud to the Battle of New Market.

The director wanted to stay true to story, shooting scenes in Lexington where the cadets actually marched.

There are some former VMI cadets working behind the scenes.

"I've been studying it for a long time, so I knew which direction I wanted to go," said Kevin Hershberger VMI class of 1995. "I only had one month to pull together all the costumes, the generals, the cadets, the officers, the civilians, everything."

The shoot is expected to wrap up by the end of this week.
