HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – A public hearing is planned Tuesday in Henrico to discuss putting a Wawa at the corner of N. Laburnum Avenue and Creighton Road in the East End.

The area needs to be rezoned because the Wawa — like most Wawa stores – would be open 24 hours a day.

According to county paperwork, the Henrico Planning Commission voted to recommend the Board of Supervisors deny the request – thus not allow the Wawa to be built.

The concern?

Allowing a Wawa to operate 24 hours a day would open the door for other businesses to do the same.

“The approval of a 24-hour PUP (provisional use permit) at this location could be incompatible with both existing and proposed residential and civic uses,” the staff report reads.  “[it] would set a precedent that would adversely impact current and future uses in the area.”

At a Dec. 2012 meeting, people who live in the area showed both “support and opposition” to Wawa’s rezoning request, according to the staff report.
