CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – Police charged an 11-year-old student with possession of a weapon on school property. The child is accused of bringing a knife to Falling Creek Elementary School on Friday. The knife was longer than three inches, police said.

The child showed the knife to a classmate, but did not threaten anyone with it, Chesterfield Police spokeswoman Elizabeth Caroon said in an email. No one was injured.

“We take very seriously our responsibility to provide a safe and supportive learning environment that is free from disruption,” Chesterfield Schools spokesman Shawn Smith said in a statement. “Students who violate student conduct regulations are subject to suspension and/or expulsion, and, if the offense is a violation of the law, to prosecution.”
