LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – A Limestone County man is in serious condition at Huntsville Hospital after an accident left him trapped inside his own truck for at least an entire night and possibly up to three days.
Michael Worthy, 54, of Limestone County somehow veered off Love Branch Road and landed under a small bridge that leads to a field. Authorities said Worthy had been trapped in his Ford Ranger since Saturday or Sunday, but a family member told WHNT News 19 that he talked to Worthy on Monday afternoon.
Worthy was alert and talking when crews pulled him from the truck, which was surrounded by rising water from a flooded culvert.
The area is near the Limestone Correctional Facility. A prison official happened to spot the vehicle during a training exercise Tuesday morning.
“I looked in the rearview mirror and just happened to see a vehicle under one of the access bridges,” said Gary Nealer. “First we checked to see if there was anybody in there, and he was in there and coherent.”
Officials at Huntsville Hospital said Michael Worthy’s condition went from fair to serious Tuesday night. Relatives said Worthy suffered several broken bones and lacerations in the wreck.
