HENRICO COUNTY, Va (WTVR) -- Over the next three days, well over 100,000 people are expected to make their way into the Metro for this weekends NASCAR events.  And as more people begin coming in, police and Richmond International Raceway (RIR) officials are bringing in more security.

The Richmond event is taking place more than a week after the bombing attacks at the Boston Marathon.  Race fans can expect to see more officers in uniform and plain clothes than ever before.

The high security also includes tighter screenings before anyone can enter the grandstands, as well as surveillance.  Attendees are encouraged to give themselves extra time to get through the gates.

RIR officials are also reminding fans to text 69050 on their cell phones if they need help, once inside.  They can also text the number if they see anything that doesn't seem right.

NASCAR weekend kicks off Thursday afternoon and runs through Saturday.  For a complete list of events click here.
